Our deep love for the island of S\u00e3o Jorge, with its nearly 250 km\u00b2 of pristine nature and status as a Natural Biosphere Reserve, inspired us to create Abrigo da Cascata. This unique place is surrounded by the waterfall that gave the project\u2019s name. The traditional houses were carefully restored from their ruins, transforming into a cozy space designed to be not just a welcoming home, but also a starting point for adventures with friends or family.<\/p>

We invite you to discover this serene corner of the Atlantic, experience a genuine connection with nature, and immerse yourself in the island\u2019s people and traditions.<\/p>

A Recovered Faj\u00e3<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The accommodation was created by restoring the ruins of a cluster of houses that once made up the Faj\u00e3 do Cavalete, where two families lived: that of Mrs. Ermelinda do Cavalete and that of Mr. Bernardo. They both resided in the Faj\u00e3 year-round, tending to their land and water mills.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

According to locals, D. Ermelinda, affectionately known as the 'grandmother of Cavalete,' had a traditional oven where she baked bread and sweets for the Divine Holy Spirit festivities. Her home was always open to welcome neighbours, friends, and family to enjoy her delicious culinary delights.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Our accommodation arose from the ruins, preserving the welcoming spirit of the 'grandmother of Cavalete.'
